Borneo's Green Heart Conference 2025
On the 22 - 23 October 2025, SaBC participate in the Borneo's Green Heart Conference : Advancing Climate Resilience, Conservation and Sustainable Livelihoods.
Representing SaBC, Madam Alessandra Markos was among the speakers in Session III: Biodiversity Conservation and Sustainable Resource Use, where she presented a paper titled: " Safeguarding Sabah's Traditional Knowledge for Conservation and Sustainable Utilization".
Her presentation focused on traditional knowledge (TK) associated with biological resources within the framework of the Nagoya Protocol on Access and Benefit Sharing (ABS) and the Sabah Biodiversity Enactment 2000. She highlighted the increasing vulnerability of traditinal knowledge owned by local communities in Sabah, due to modernization, socioeconomic pressures, and insufficient protection mechanisms.
The paper further explored SaBC's ongoing efforts to safeguard TK through biocultural protocols, Prioir Informed Consent (PIC), integration of ABS principles, and strategic policies under the Sabah Biodiversity Strategy 2024 - 2034 , including the development of the Sabah TK Database.
SaBC remains committed to advancing biodiversity conservation, promoting sustainable use of biological resource, and ensuring that the traditional knowledge of Sabah's local communities continues to be valued, protected, and shared responsibly.
