Background of SaBC
Sabah Biodiversity Center (SaBC) was established on the 25th April 2008 and started operating on the 7th May 2008. It was established as the State's strategy to enhance the government of the state concerning biodiversity. The establishment of SaBC together with the Sabah Biodiversity Council (SBC) became the framework to reinforce management, conservation, protection and law of Sabah biological resources.
Sabah Biodiversity Enactment 2000 (SBE2000)* that was drafted in 2000 and became effective on the year 2008 has paved the way to the establishment of SaBC. It requires SaBC to perform 13 tasks** that can be categorized into 5 main areas:

Biodiversity Center Fund (BCF) is set up under the provision of SBE2000 Section 14. This fund can be derived from the State Government, Federal (e.g. grants), donations and contributions by any statutory body, body corporate, individual person, and collections from the Council, the administration, management and operation of the Center, the payment of all expenses necessary for carrying out the purpose of the SBE2000.
