The Sabah Biodiversity Strategy 2012 - 2022 - Shared Heritage, Shared Responsibility
Sabah is known for its high biological diversity of flora and fauna as well as various kinds ecosystems. The pristine rainforests, wetlands, beaches and islands, coral reefs and mountains does not only function as habitats for wildlife but also provide important services such as clean water, food, recreational, nutrient cycling and among others that benefit human. All of these natural treasures are entrusted to us and it is crucial for us to conserve and protect our biodiversity.
The Sabah Biodiversity Strategy 2012 - 2022 is a 10 year strategy that charts Sabah’s commitment and contributions to fulfill the pledge made by Malaysia in order to implement the Convention on Biological Diversity. The Strategy emphasized on engaging the people of Sabah, the need to reduce pressures on biodiversity, enhancing the resilience of our ecosystems, improving our understanding and finally strengthening the capacity of all stakeholders to manage biodiversity.
The Sabah Biodiversity Centre is the key agency to coordinate, facilitate, communicate, review and monitor the strategy. However, the responsibility to implement the various action plans lies with various stakeholders.
